Every cylinder here is rated by its manufacturer to be installed outside. Moving the cylinder out gives the cupboard back, but only a unit with an outdoor rating keeps its warranty there. Model numbers, sizes and prices below.

Electric cylinders rated for outside
Rinnai's whole vitreous enamel range (ME and MEU codes), Rheem's duplex stainless MPSS range and Thermann's full-size electric range are rated indoor or outdoor. The Rinnai stainless MS and low pressure ranges, and the Rheem MPVE enamel range, are indoor only: they are not on this list.

Outdoor heat pump water heaters

Before you move a cylinder outside
- Check the rating on the model, not the brand: the same brand can make an indoor-only range and an outdoor range.
- An outside cylinder still needs a seismic restraint and its valves; the pipe runs to it change, so quote the plumbing on site.
- Moving a cylinder is restricted sanitary plumbing work. It must be done by a licensed person.
